Tainted Holiday

Today makes one year that Candace died. It doesn’t seem like we could ever really celebrate another New Years Eve knowing that it’s also a death anniversary.

We will, though, I know, because my dad was buried on my birthday years ago. I have been able to celebrate birthdays without thinking too much about that.

Some days I feel like I’m swimming against the current. Today is one of those days. My mind seems broken and cluttered. But not completely. There is a tiny voice somewhere in the chaos that keeps saying, it will get better, it will get better.

Time, the beast that can be so cruel to our bodies is the same thing that heals the mind.

I want to give a great big thanks to Jette and Chip for managing Holidailies and all of the other bloggers there who participated. This project helped make this season a little brighter.

To my regulars, I want to thank you too for sticking around, for your comments, and just being there. You’ve made my entire year better. Every one of you.

Now go pop some fireworks. I’ll be listening for them.

  1. I hope you celebrate the beautiful girl, that will forever live on in her little boy.
You really summed it all up in that sentence: “time, the beast…..” How perfectly well put. (I wish I had come up with that)
Don’t thank us, we thank you. You do all the hard work, Guess what I do in the mornings. I switch on the coffee maker (having put in water & coffee before I go to sleep)and go straight to the computer to get your next entry.
    Did you hear the fireworks?
You’re hearing things, I didn’t do any. I went to my friends house, still no fireworks.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!

  2. That is one of the problems with the way things turned out following Candace’s death. There was a custody battle and the boyfriend’s family got her baby. I can’t really blog the details of it.

I like that image, you putting on the coffee and reading the blog.

Happy New Year to you too. We don’t have any fireworks either and were supposed to go to Blane’s but Blane Sr. is down with some stomach ills. I don’t think we’ll make it there.

  3. Is it really 08. I woke up this morning like any other day. Mentally I was trying to block out what DEC 31 actually meant to me.

    Happy New Years “Ya’ll”

  4. Same here, Daily, and although I don’t comment on every post of yours, I do read them all in the rss feed.

    Thanks, Max, you too.

Scarface, I was thinking about you and your mother today, all day.

  5. It was kind of you to thank us for letting you entertain us. Did you get any new photo’s of Little Man. Time does heal wounds of the heart. You and yours were on my mind yesterday, as we said farewell to my cousin Vera Mills’s. She was the mother of ten children. I was able to bring the family copies of a fifty year old photo that no one had ever seen. You may have known her. She was a nurse at the general for ever it seems.
Still waiting for the dvd of your brothers down the Bayou. Have a great New Year. Don’t forget the black eyes and cabage.

  6. Voodoo, I got one a month ago of Little Man. Sorry about your cousin. Yes, I did know Ms Mills from the hospital.

Godt Nytt Ar. Does that mean Happy New Year in Norwegian?

Thanks afr, you too, have a great year.

  7. Hi Kitty,
I accept that you’ll not be blogging daily, but hope you can throw some words out there every week or so- Or is that too much to ask? Just thought I’d make a suggestion to prod you along.

I’m so happy to have met you through our blogs. I think you’re great and like seeing that photo of your smiling face next to your comments.

I hope your new year is as lovely as you are, inside and out.

    Ciao!

  8. Yes that’s right.
I hope Blane’s stomack has settled and that he feels much better. Nothing quite like seeing in the new year with your pants down on the bog. (oh what a mental picture!!) Hope you had a nice and enjoyable evening anyway.

  9. Videoxy, I usually think up something to blog about every three days. Thanks for your kind words and hope you have a great year.

Liv, Blane was sick all night. He’s better now. Blane Jr. and Angela came over and we played board games (catchphrase) until we ran out of new cards.
    That’s a fun game.
